Turkey National Needs Assessment of State School English Language Teaching Forum

“Turkey National Needs Assessment of State School English Language Teaching” report provides a baseline study on the current state of foreign language teaching, and English in particular, in the state school sector. The ensuing report is the result of a collaboration between the British Council and TEPAV where the two organisations have pooled their respective areas of expertise to produce one of the largest and most comprehensive pieces of research of its kind in Turkey. Data collected from TEPAV’s economic analysis, classroom observation of 80 English language classes across Turkey and, uniquely, a mass survey administered to about 20,000 students, parents and teachers of English are used for the analyses in this report.

TEPAV’s analysis of the importance of English language skills to the continued development of the Turkish economy is combined with British Council experience in the area of English language teaching to set the terms for a study designed to produce a realistic and achievable set of recommendations available for further exploration.
