As a part of the T20 (Think-20) activities under the G20 Argentine presidency, policy briefs prepared by leading think tanks have been published and shared with the public.
Similar to 2017, TEPAV, once again, has taken part in developing policy briefs to be discussed in G20 meetings in 2018. These briefs, which were prepared to be conveyed to the actors in global governance at the G20 meetings in September, were shared on Argentina's T20 site (https://t20argentina.org/policy-briefs/). Two policy proposals developed by TEPAV under the "Task Force on Migration" were deemed eligible to be included in this list.
Representatives of major think tanks who are members of the T20 in G20 countries have shared policy brief documents they prepared with their Argentinian counterparts. In this regard, more than 50 policy proposals under 12 ‘task forces’ were developed to act as points of reference to the G20 process. TEPAV, as a members of the "Task Force on Migration", presented two policy proposals aimed at improving the level of social integration in migrants. In relation, one of the briefs is titled "Sustainable Way of Social Integration: Job Generation -How to Estimate and Compare the Cost of Employing One More Refugee?”, and the other is a policy proposal titled "Getting into School: Looking for Indicators of Integration".
Sustainable Way of Social Integration: Job Generation -How to Estimate and Compare the Cost of Employing One More Refugee? [1]
In this policy proposal, a new international cooperation mechanism aims to facilitate the integration of Syrian refugees into local economies. In this framework, the brief proposes the development of a quantitative methodology to measure the cost of employing another refugee in host countries. This model, which takes into account the economic capacity and levels of diversity, social security and settlement costs, can be utilized to calibrate responsibility-sharing for job creation among countries.
Getting into School: Indicators of Integration [2]
This policy proposal attempts to identify key performance indicators (KPI) for measuring refugee integration policies in host countries. In this framework, the brief draws upon the positive correlation between refugee school enrolment rates and overall integration. Correspondingly, the findings could also prove to be a tool to evaluate the realization levels of objectively agreeable targets set to ensure the fairness and the effectiveness of the support provided to refugees.
