The sectors employ thirty-nine percent of the total insured workers in manufacturing industry.
ANKARA – The number of insured workers in the manufacturing industry reached 3,326,000 in September 2012. Thirty-nine percent of the total employment in manufacturing was in the textiles, wearing apparel and food products sectors.
The fourteenth issue of the TEPAV Employment Monitoring Bulletin reports that insured employment in the manufacturing sector increased by 72,000 month-on-month and by 218,000 year-on-year in September 2012.
According to the Bulletin, the highest increase in manufacturing employment between September 2011 and 2012 was in the manufacture of textile products sector with a rise by 45,000, followed by manufacture of wearing apparels sector (increased by 43,000) and manufacture of food products sector (increased by 26,000). Insured employment in these sectors therefore reached 421,000 for textiles, 442,000 for wearing apparel and 423,000 for food products sectors.
The report assessed, “Employment of the manufacturing sector aimed at the domestic market weakened in 2012 due to sluggish domestic demand. Therefore, the remarkable increase in the insured employment in manufacturing industry is associated rather with the shift from informal to insured employment.”
Gaziantep Outperforms Kocaeli and Bursa in Employment Growth
The number of insured workers in Istanbul increased year-on-year by 275,000 to 3.5 million. Insured employment increased by 74,000 to 1 million in Ankara and by 46,000 to 767,000 in Izmir.
Excluding the three, Antalya and Gaziantep recorded to the two highest employment growth rates between September 2011 and 2012. With a rise by 45,000 people, the number of insured workers reached 490,000 in Antalya, followed by Gaziantep where insured employment increased by 38,000 to 226,000.
