TEPAV attended the "Eighth South and South-West Asia Subregional Forum on the Sustainable Development Goals," held from November 12 to 14, 2024, in New Delhi, India. The event was co-hosted by the NITI Aayog of the Government of India and ESCAP, in collaboration with the UN Resident Coordinator and the Research and Information System for Developing Countries, India. The Forum brought together governments, civil society, the private sector, academia, and subregional and international institutions on a common subregional platform.
Feride İnan, Director of the Center for Geoeconomic Studies at TEPAV, presented progress on SDG 5, which focuses on gender equality. The session was chaired by Ms. Kesang Deki, Cabinet Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet Secretariat, Royal Government of Bhutan. Ms. Susan Ferguson, Country Representative for India at UN Women, provided commentary on Ms. İnan’s presentation.
In addition, Ms. İnan presented Turkey’s experience with CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) during a session titled “Climate Change and Carbon Regulations – Way Forward for South and South-West Asia.” The session was moderated by Dr. Nagesh Kumar, Director of the Institute for Studies in Industrial Development, India. Other panel participants included Mr. Sajeewa Agampodi Umanga Mendis, Director of the BIMSTEC Secretariat, Dhaka; Dr. P.K. Anand, Research and Information System for Developing Countries, India; Mr. Rana Junaid Zahid, Director of Climate Change, Agriculture & Food Security, Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), Pakistan; Ms. Pramila Acharya Rijal, President of the South Asian Women Development Forum, Kathmandu, Nepal; and Dr. Arvind Kumar, President of the India Water Foundation, India.
