Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) meeting was held in TEPAV in April 14 (on Friday) with the participation of public institutions; Undersecretaries of Treasury, Public Health Agency of Turkey, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, as well as the leading representatives of the pharmaceutical and livestock sectors.
In recent years, due to its effect on public health and economy, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) has been one of the most important issues on the global agenda. The issues was also addressed in the “Hangzhou Declaration” which was announced under China’s Presidency of G20. Also this year, AMR maintains its position on the agenda under Germany’s Presidency of G20. In addition to being a hot topic in meetings under the scope of G20, it is also expected that this year certain measures will be taken by the G20 platform and international organizations like World Health Organization.
In Turkey, especially in the last few years, the Ministry of Health and related institutions, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Livestock have taken significant steps to raise awareness about the consumption of antibiotics. At the same time, companies and associations in the pharmaceutical and livestock sectors are carrying out various programs and studies to contribute into the issue.
As far as the global debate on AMR goes, which is also a particular concern to Turkey, different topics are being debated ranging from R&D strategies to various sanctions. At the roundtable meeting held with the participation of relevant stakeholders, all these components were discussed resulting with the goal to strengthen Turkey's position on Antimicrobial Resistance.
The officials from Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Health, Undersecretaries of Treasury, Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies, (AiFD), Health Institutes of Turkey (TUSEB), Turkey Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Expertise Association (EKMUD), Public Health Agency of Turkey, Public Hospitals Administration of Turkey (TKHK), Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), Turkish Pharmacists’ Association (TEB), Association of White Meat Industry and Breeders Association (BESD-BIR), Central Union of Egg Producers (YUM-BIR), Milk, Meat, Food Industrialists and Manufacturers of Turkey (SET-BIR), Turkish Association for Hospital Infections and Control (HIDER), Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TİTCK) participated in the meeting.
