During a meeting organized in the context of the project carried out by TEPAV in collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the parties exchanged views on extending licensed warehousing.
ANKARA – TEPAV and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) launched a joint project on the licensed warehousing and warehouse receipts system, which despite a decade-long history in Turkey has not become prevalent. In this context, a meeting was held on Monday, 19 March 2012 with the title, “Today and the Future of the Licensed Warehousing and Warehouse Receipt System in Turkey.”
The opening speeches were delivered by Faik Yavuz, TOBB Vice President and Chairman of the Ankara Commodity Exchange, and Güven Sak, TEPAV Director. The parties then discussed the current state of affairs in the licensed warehousing and warehouse receipts system and the steps to take in order to enhance it. The questions addressed in this context were: “Is the current legislation conductive for enhancement?” “What are the authorities and responsibilities of the relevant institutions concerning the system?” “Are the current mechanisms for financing agricultural production sufficient?”
In addition to the TEPAV and EBRD representatives, the meeting was attended by representatives from the Undersecretariat of Treasury, the Ministry for Customs and Trade, the Capital Markets Board, the Soil Products Office, the Agricultural Credit Cooperatives of Turkey, the Turkish Derivative Exchanges, Ziraat Bank, the Union of Agricultural Chambers of Turkey, and the TOBB chambers and commodity exchanges.
