TEPAV hosted Dany Bahar of Harvard University to perform trainings on 'product space', a new developmental economics approach guiding the identification of countries' product patterns.
Dany Bahar, a Doctoral Fellow at the Center for International Development (CID) at Harvard University, visited TEPAV during January 2011 to perform a series of trainings to the staff on applications of recent economic research performed at CID under the direction of Prof. Ricardo Hausmann and Prof. Cesar Hidalgo.
The trainings are part of a larger project which involves an analysis of the productive structure of Turkey's provinces and regions, with the purpose of contributing with innovative ideas for regional development policies within the country. The analysis involves an application of the concepts developed in the framework of the Product Space.
The analysis is meant to understand the different levels of diversification and complexity of the productive structure of Turkish provinces and regions. The results of this study will be an important piece in shaping the local development strategy for different areas within the country.
Dany Bahar is a PhD candidate in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School of Government (HKS) specializing in Private Sector Development, Economic Development and International Economics. Bahar also holds an MPA in International Development from HKS and an MA in Economics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He has performed economic consultancies to governments, international organizations and NGOs in Armenia, Georgia, Turkey and in other regions such as India and Latin America.
