Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, the chairman of TOBB and Mustafa Parlak, the chairman of Competition Board made the opening speeches of the meeting. Güven Sak, the director of TEPAV | EPRI made a presentation about "Turkey's Structural Transformation and Retailing Sector". The project of TOBB, Competition Board and World Bank: "The Fast Consumer Goods: Competition Conditions and Policies", which is conducted by TEPAV was presented by Aydın Çelen, Competition Expert. The meeting, in which Metin Ercan, member of Boğaziçi University, made a presentation about informal economy and retail sector, continued with the presentation of Tarkan Erdoğan, Competition Expert, about "Current Issues: The acquisition of CarrefourSA/Gima and Migros/Tansaş."
In the discussion session, the subjects such as the draft bill of large stores, the situation of traditional retailers, the relations between retailers and suppliers, the competition after the recent acquisitions and the future of the sector were discussed.
TEPAV | EPRI is aiming to examine sector dynamics with scientific methods and to make policy recommendations by examining every aspects of the sector by gathering information from the leading names of the sector, experts and the public agents. In this context, the policy recommendations are going to focus on the methods that will sustain the competitive structure of sector, that will avoid from entry barriers and that will offer ways to make "losers of the transformation" more efficient.
