In view of the impending opening of accession negotiations with Turkey on 3 October 2005 it is important for the Turkish business sector to understand the way negotiations for accession to the European Union are conducted and what these negotiations look like in their application for the Turkish business sector.
TOBB and TEPAV|EPRI designed a workshop called "EU Accession and Negotiation Techniques" on April 24, 2005 that will bring together EU practitioners of the last negotiation process and Turkey experts for brief speeches on their experiences as well as on a brainstorming session for the negotiation technique. Michael Rupp from the European Parliament, Foreign Affairs Committee, will draw a broad perspective of EU negotiations and explain how the enlargement mechanism works.
While Dr. Bernd Biervert, former Commission's negotiation team member for Slovakia will share his experiences from the Commission side; Ambassador Juraj Migas, Chief Negotiator for the Slovak Republic is going to put what Slovakia negotiation team been through. Ambassador Maciej Popowski, who is the Head of the Poland Mission to the EU, will inform the audience on Poland's accession procedure. Helen Campbell who took place at Commission negotiation team for Bulgaria is going to bring up her experience with Bulgaria. Hürrem Cansevdi who is an expert on EU affairs and EU- Turkey relations is going to evaluate the important chapter for Turkey. The outcome of the program would be important both for the Turkish government and the Turkish business sector. In both parts of the program the audience will be able to participate in a discussion round.
