The second event of the Merih Celasun Memorial Day at TEPAV, held in commemoration of Prof. Merih Celasun, will host the famous scientist Professor Acemoğlu of MIT for the Memorial Lecture.
ANKARA – TEPAV has been organizing Memorial Day events in commemoration of Professor Merih Celasun, who offered critical solutions for Turkey’s economic problems with his studies on economic policy driven by scientific thought. The second event of the annual series will be held on Wednesday, 20 June 2012. During the event, Professor Daron Acemoğlu of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will deliver a presentation titled “Why Nations Fail?”
Merih Celasun Memorial Day events invite prominent international academics to deliver lectures on the structural problems of the Turkish economy. The first Memorial Lecture was delivered by Professor Dani Rodrik of Harvard University with a focus on Turkey’s structural transformation and economic development.

Also in the context of the events, the Merih Celasun Award will be given to academic studies on the Turkish economy. The winners of the first year’s award were Prof. Ayşe İmrohoroğlu and Prof. Selahattin İmrohoroğlu of South Califonia University, and Dr. Murat Üngör of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey with the study "Agricultural Productivity and Growth in Turkey."
